The $11,576 award supports the use of computers as important teaching tools in the MyTime Afterschool programs, the purchase of an Identification Printer used for all CIS employees to gain access to school facilities, and computer upgrades to help staff with important student and parent reports along with reports needed for our local and national offices.

“This grant from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley will help us continue with many of the services we are providing to students we serve in our Aurora public schools. We will be in a much stronger position to help students in our MyTime Afterschool programs who may not have access to a computer at home,” stated Theresa Shoemaker, Executive Director of Communities In Schools of Aurora. “CIS is very proud of the work we are doing to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.”

Aurora students who are engaged in our programs become a part of the fabric of leadership that we refer to as our “Five Basics” including: 1. A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult 2. A safe place to learn and grow 3. A healthy start and a healthy future 4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation and 5. A chance to give back to peers and community. Each of these Basics along with our mission help us to drive our efforts to help get Aurora students to graduate with the minimum of a High School diploma.
